Emile Dubuc,
our founder and first president (1936) was born in
Esmond, RI on March 7, 1882. He was the son of Michel Dubuc
and Eliza Roy, both of Canada. He attended parochial
schools on Central Falls and graduated from
Bryant-Stratton Commercial College in Providence. He
worked in textile mills and hardware stores as well as a
traveling salesman. In 1911, he opened a hardware store
on Broadway which he later moved downtown where it was
known as East Avenue Hardware. He sold it in 1929 to
open a bookstore and hobby shop on High Street. Always
active in Franco-American affairs, he was a director and
counselor of L' Union Saint Jean Baptiste d' Amerique
and La Federation Francaise. He was also particularly
proud to have led a successful fund raising campaign
which permitted the erection of the church of Notre Dame
de la Consolation. He was married to Emelie masse of
Dayville, Conn. They had five children: Mrs Albert J.
Coutu of Pawtucket, Mrs Gerard W. Duval of Cumberland,
Mr. Emile L. Dubuc of Pawtucket, Mr. Roland J. Dubuc of
North Attleboro and Mr. Gerard J. Dubuc of Cranston. The
Dubuc made their home at 681 Broadway. He died on
September 23, 1954 and is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery. |

R. Deblois Labrosse, our second president (1937-1939), was born in Central Falls, RI, on June 3rd, 1901. He was the son of J. Eugene LaBrosse of Ripon, Ontario, and Dianne deBlois of St. Ours, P.Q. He attended Sacred Heart Academy of Central Falls, RI. Mr. Labrosse was a graduate of Providence College and the Georgetown University Law School. Mr LaBrosse was licensed to practice law in Washington, DC, at age 21. He later developed a partnership with his son, Luc, practicing in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He served as president of the R.I. Bar Association. He also served on the Pawtucket Board of Review. Active in scouting, he was the founder and first leader of the scout troop at Notre Dame Parish in Central Falls. He had the distinction of having his four sons, Paul, Andre, Marc and Luc attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was married to the late Emilienne C. Chardonnet of Deschaillons, P.Q. They lived at 103 Hawes St., Central Falls, and were communicants of Notre Dame Church. He passed away on March 29th, 1978 and is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery. |

Armand J.
Marot, our third president (1939-1941) was born in Montreal,
P.Q., on February 18th, 1895. He was the son of Pierre Marot of Montreal,
P.Q., and Agnes Bessette of St. Remi, P.Q. He attended St. Charles School in Providence and graduated from LaSalle Academy. He owned
M.B. Garment where he practiced his trade of tailor. He had the distinction of having been a trustee, treasurer, secretary, vice-president and president of Notre Dame Hospital, Central Falls. He was married to Alice Cote of St.
Flavien, P.Q. The Marot family had 8 children: Rev. Roger
Marot, Dr. George Marot, Messrs. Normand and Ernest
Marot, Mrs. Lucille Cheltra, Mrs. Aline LeClair, Mrs. Anita Tousignant and Miss Lorraine
Marot. They lived at 27 Thurber Ave in Pawtucket. They were communicants of St. Cecilia’s Parish. He died on January 4th, 1962 and is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery. |

Armand L.
Labrie, our fourth president (1941-1943), was born in Fall River, Mass., on March 21st, 1893. He was the son of Armand A. Labrie of St.
Eloie, P.Q., and Mary Moquin of Montreal, P.Q. He attended St. Jean Baptiste School in Woodlawn. He was the founder of LaBrie’s Shoe Stores. He served on the boards of the Central Falls Credit Union and Notre Dame Hospital. He was married to Anna Gaboriault of St. John,
P.Q. The Labries had 2 sons: Armand and Robert. They made their home at 10 Bellevue Ave., Lincoln and were communicants of St. Mathieu’s Church, Central Falls. He passed away June 8th, 1983 and is buried with his wife in Notre Dame Cemetery. |

Amos L.
Lachapelle, our fifth president (1943-1944) was born in Pawtucket on March 28th, 1902. He was the son of Amos Lachapelle of Pawtucket and Eugenie Mailhot of Fall River, Mass. He attended St. Jean Baptiste School and graduated from LaSalle Academy. He held degrees from Providence College and the Boston University Law School. Mr. Lachapelle was a founding member and president of the Woodlawn Credit Union. He was instrumental in founding the Citizens League which he later served as president. He was a former Associate Justice of the Tenth District Court in Pawtucket and a special assistant to the attorney general in 1938. Mr. Lachapelle was married to Lina Chretien of Holyoke, Mass. The Lachapelles had 2 sons: Paul and Philip. They were communicants of St. Cecilia’s parish in Pawtucket, RI. He died on October 29th, 1976 and is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery. |
